The Importance of Water!!
Water is essential to life, a person's survival depends on drinking water. The human body consists of about 75% water and the brain about 85%. Each cell in the body depends upon water in order to function. Water is necessary for the digestion and absorption of food; helps maintain proper muscle tone; supplies oxygen and nutrients to the cells; rids the body of wastes; and serves as a natural air conditioning system. Numerous disorders are caused by insufficient and unhealthy water intake.
Everyone needs our daily supply of water, since we cannot maintain reserves of it in our body as we can with food. A person would die within three to seven days without water. In order to maintain the various bodily functions, a person should be drinking at least half their body weight in ounces. (ie: if you weigh 150 pounds, then you should drink 75 ounces of water)
Unfortunately, water that has been treated (Like city water or even water that's been bottled) has had a molecule breakdown. Water filtration processes, used to clean our water supply, frequently de-structures the water. By drinking structured water or adding a plant base to your water, your body will be able to become more hydrated.
How does a Plant base work? (ie: Herbal Water, Sprig of Peppermint, Lemon Wedge, or Essential Oil) The water molecules attach themselves to the plant base, in turn the plant base attaches itself and communicates to the body's cells, creating better hydration.
It doesn’t have to be just water, water, water all day, every day - you can and should mix it up a little. The following lists will give you a starting point of what is a great alternative.
Drinks to Avoid:
- Coffee (High caffeine and acids)
- Black tea (Camellia sinensis Tea Plant, high in caffeine and tannins)
- Green tea (Same plant as Black Tea, just processed differently)
- Fruit juice (Very high concentration of sugar)
- Soft drinks (“Soft drinks” includes colas, sports drinks, flavored milks, artificial flavored waters, energy drinks and iced tea drinks.)
- Carbonated Water (Carbonation causes an acid pH within the water)
- Alcohol (This should be a no brainer!)
What to Drink:
- Pure Water (Alkaline water)
- Herbal Teas (caffeine free. Red Rooibos tea is a great replacement for Black Tea. Peppermint Tea is also great for digestion.
- Naturally Flavored Water from any plant source. Have fun with it! Go to The Yummy Life for some great recipes!
- Fresh Vegetable Juice (Drinking a glass of freshly squeezed vegetable juice each day will have a remarkable impact on your health. Juicing dark green veggies will give you an almighty nutrition hit and will get you on your way to your minimum 5 serves of veg each day!)
- Coconut Water (Coconut water is the water from the middle of a fresh, young, green coconut.) Not to be confused with coconut cream or milk, it is a clear, alkaline, slightly sweet liquid that is high in alkaline salts and is quite simply delicious!
